Hello! My name is Keeho Lee and I am currently a junior studying Industrial and Systems Engineering at Rutgers University. This August, I will be leading a Global Water Brigades group to Honduras. For 7 days, we will help community members and the Global Brigades Staff implement a cost-efficient and sustainable water system to prevent water related illnesses in a community with limited access to a sufficient quantity and quality of clean water. Here are some facts about Honduras and the regions that Global Brigades work with.
A typical Honduran has less than 3 gallons of water to use per day. (A typical American uses more than 100 gallons per day.) Many women and children in the rural areas of Honduras spend up to six hours each day fetching water and carrying it home on their heads. 62% of Hondurans have no access to proper sanitation infrastructure.
Our main goal as a Brigade is to empower community members to improve their lifestyle, health, and economic potential.
